Waiting for the AppServer to shutdown AOE 23.01

I was following the instructions for installing an AOE upgrade.  When I ran ./stopAllAOEServices.sh it stopped many services.  There began to be a message on the screen:

Waiting for the AppServer (PID 7323) to shutdown

That message has been repeating for an hour.  Any ideas how to fix this?
OS CentOS 7

Current AOE 22.01

after watching the message scroll up the screen for a couple of hours I did ctrl-c and then ran ./stopAllAOEServices.sh again.  This time it worked.
