Hi,
I have ordered a second PRI and they dropped a second cable into my cabinet. I want to verify that that is what I needed and that adding the additional lines to the same line is not possible. The only reason I ask is I just realized I only have one network module right now. I bough some extra T1/PRI modules for output to the fax servers but thought I had a dual port Network card and was mistaken. Also, I was wondering if the T1/PRI cards could be used as network cards since I have extra single port cards.
Thanks,
David

Yes, in order to have 2 PRIs you need 2 physical cable drops. Each T1 line has 24 channels, and a PRI has 23 B-channels plus a D-channel (for 24 channels). So a T1 can only support 1 PRI.
Hope that answers your question,
Patrick

Re: Adding a Second PRI
David,
The Network slots only support single-port modules. You'll notice these two slots are much smaller than the 4 USER slots above them. So there are 2 Network Slots, but each only supports a single T1/PRI interface. If you have extra Network cards, you can put one in the Network 2 slot in order to use both Ntwk 1 and Ntwk 2.
The Network modules are the only single port module in the ATLAS. The USER T1/PRI modules have 2 or 4 ports.
Any T1/PRI port can be configured and used for either a Network or CPE connection. The configuration determines its role, not the module. So if you have an available T1/PRI port on one of your USER modules, you can configure that as a NETWORK TERM and connect the Telco PRI to it.
Hope this helps,
Patrick

Re: Adding a Second PRI
Thanks for the helpful reply!
So only Network modules can go in the network slots and they will only ever have one port. But any unused T1/PRI port can be used as a Network port even though not attached to the network slot.
One more question just to verify... Is it true that to have 2 PRIs I need two physical cable drops from my carrier and two network ports?
Thanks,

Re: Adding a Second PRI
Perfect thanks! I was 99% sure of that but before I buy new equipment I need to verify.
