Understanding ADTRAN Serial Numbers


ADTRAN serial numbers are used to identify manufacture and warranty dates of ADTRAN products.  This document describes the different formats used on ADTRAN products for the purpose of identification.

Information regarding Warranty by product is available here: http://www.adtran.com/warranty. Support documentation for current and discontinued products is also available at https://supportforums.adtran.com.

Format used prior to 2000

In this example, the following information can be determined when reading the serial number label from left to right:

  • Hardware Revision of Product – “N”
  • Year Manufactured – “6” = 1996
  • Week of Year Manufactured – “51”
  • Incrementing Identifier – “B6607”
Format used after 2000 and limited use today
  image2.pngIn this example, the following information can be determined when reading  the serial number label from left to right:
  • Hardware Revision of product – “A”
  • Year Manufactured – “G” = 2006
  • Week of Year Manufactured – “33”
  • Incrementing identifier – “D4104”
Note that the letter indicating the year manufactured starts in 2000 with the letter “A”.
Telcordia Format
image3.pngIn this example, the following information can be determined when reading  the serial number label from left to right:
  • Hardware Revision of product – “A”
  • Issuing Agency (Telcordia)  = “LB”
  • ADTRAN’s Company ID = “ADTN”
  • Year Manufactured – “09” = 2009
  • Week of Year Manufactured – “40”
  • Incrementing identifier – “AD166”

System Serial Numbers

image4.png This serial number format is used to represent a group of serial numbers within a configured bundle.  The following information can be determined from the serial number label:
  • System Prefix – “CFG”
  • Incrementing Identifier – “0796122”

Note that the “CFG” format serial number is required for RMA purposes on Total Access 900 and Total Access 600 Series products.

Polycom MAC Address/Serial Number Format

Polycom IP Phones purchased via ADTRAN prior to December 2010 could be labeled with the format mentioned above as “used after 2000”.

Polycom IP Phones purchased via ADTRAN after December 2010 may contain no ADTRAN serial number.  In this case, the Polycom MAC address is used as the serial number for warranty purposes.
