Using ADTRAN ISU ® Products With the Vision Pro 6500/7500 Video Teleconferencing System by the Panasonic® Corporation

A:

Introduction

This configuration uses RS-366 dialing and V.35 data port cables included with the teleconferencing equipment. These cables are the same cables used with Switched 56 DSU/CSUs. This configuration supports calls made to an IMUX (Inverse MUX) using BONDING Mode 1 and to other systems using Switched 56 kbps DSU/CSUs by using the smart dial strings provided in the ADTRAN ISU 2x64 and ADTRAN ISU 512.

Configuring Panasonic Video Teleconferencing Systems to Support ADTRAN ISU Products

ISU 512 Setup

Prior to running the Panasonic video teleconferencing system software for the first time, manually pre-configure the ISU 512 settings. The ISU 512 also requires Network Options configuration. Referring to the ISU User Manual, verify the following settings on the unit:

  • Set Network Options appropriately.
  • Select Quick setup = Video 384k.
  • Set Connector Type = V.35 on ISU 512 (use ADTRAN 530A-to-V.35 adapters on the EIA-530 -- part number 1200072L1).
  • Set CD = Normal.
  • Set DSR = Off Idle + Test.

ISU 2x64 Setup

Prior to running the Panasonic video teleconferencing system software for the first time, manually pre-configure the ISU 2x64 settings. The ISU 2x64 also requires Network Options configuration. Referring to the ISU User Manual, verify the following settings on the unit:

  • Set Network Options appropriately.
  • Select Quick setup = Dial 64k sync (for both DTE ports).
  • Set Connector Type = V.35 on ISU 2x64 (use ADTRAN 530A-to-V.35 adapters -- part number 1200072L1).
  • Set 530-V.35 Cable = Enabled.
  • Set DTR = Idle when Off.
  • Set CD = Normal.
  • Set DSR = Off Idle + Test.

Note: DTE #2 on the ISU 2x64 is the primary DTE port. This requires the DTE #1 V.35 and RS-366 cables be reversed with DTE #2 V.35 and RS-366. This is easier to swap from the Panasonic end of the cable than the ISU 2x64 end. This is not true for ISU 2x64 RM units or some new Panasonic systems.

Panasonic Video Teleconferencing System Setup

Select the Communications menu and set Transmission Speed to the desired speed. An example would be "112/128 kbps, 384/336 kbps, 56/64k x 2.".

Your Panasonic video teleconferencing system should now be ready to dial.

Dialing

  1. Press the Dial Key next to the numeric keypad on the remote control at the bottom, under the sliding door.

  2. Enter the number to be dialed on the numeric keypad.

Note: Communication transmission speed must be set to the desired speed. Newer Panasonic video systems append the appropriate digits to set this speed unless one is already in the number to be dialed. If you set the speed using a smart dial string that does not match the Transmission Speed setting then the video system may not negotiate the protocol and may hang-up the ISU device.

  3. Once dialed, nothing happens on the TV screen until the entire bandwidth is established and the Video/Audio protocol is established. Then Connected is shown on screen and the audio starts.
Note: The ADTRAN 530A-to-V.35 adapter (part number 1200072L1) is not a passive cable and does voltage level conversion.

Troubleshooting Tips

  1. Problems may be isolated by using the test and diagnostic capability built into the ADTRAN ISU product. First refer to the chapter on troubleshooting in the ISU User Manual to correct any problems with the ISDN network configuration. If ISDN network configuration problems can not be resolved, contact your ADTRAN distributor for configuration support.

  2. Assuming your ADTRAN ISU displays READY, and this is not a false ready state, you can verify that the cables between the Panasonic video teleconferencing system and the ISU adapters are connected. This can be done by doing a loopback to the DTE from the test menu of the ISU unit and configuring the Panasonic video teleconferencing system for direct connection (refer to the Panasonic manual or Technical Support for details). This should return the picture and sound to the video teleconferencing system.
