snmp agent -- unknown command

Jump to solution

We have an old Gen1 1238 that we are trying to poll SNMP data from. When attempting to enable the SNMP Agent by typing "snmp agent" the message returned is "Unrecognized command". Typing "snmp agent" in a 1550 works.

Anyone know if there's a different method to enable the SNMP Agent for a 1238?

I discovered the proper command for the 1238: ip snmp agent is used on the old 1238 switches. When doing a recent comparison between the 1238 and a more modern switch, I noticed the 1238 had a line which stated "no ip snmp agent". Not sure what the difference is between "ip snmp agent" and "snmp agent", but at least snmp polling is working.
