Bridging DR Site

Jump to solution

We're in the process of designing our new Disaster Recovery site and we utilize Adtran NetVanta 1335s (v18 AOS).  We have 11 sites that use BGP over Metro Ethernet and/or MPLS.  Is it possible to set up a bridge-group to our DR site utilizing BGP over Metro Ethernet?  I looked at the documentation for setting up bridge-groups via PPP and T1, but wasn't sure if it's possible via BGP and Metro Eth.

Thanks!

- Thanks for posting your question on the forum!

Unfortunately, it would not be possible to bridge the 2 devices together if the carrier is sitting between them. The carrier is set up to route traffic across its cloud, and in setting up a bridge-group you would essentially be trying to extend your LAN across the routed cloud.

Please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Noor

The CenturyLink Metro Ethernet is a distributed Layer 2 switching network that uses BGP.  I just figured that since bridging operates on Layer 2 that bridging across this network should be possible.  I'll get with CenturyLink and see of they have a solution for this.  Thanks
