maximum number of VRRP's allowed in a 1335

Jump to solution

I have two 1335's that I want to implement VRRP on.  Based upon the configuration guide (VRRP for AOS), it states that there can be two VRRP routers per interface (page 3).  Also it appears to define an interface as either a VLAN or an ethernet port.

I have a network with 6 VLANs.  it appears that I can create VRRP's for each of these 6 VLANS,   Do I understand this or is there a limit of two VRRP's per physical router?

as a side note I went to your AOS Product Feature Matrix and it does not indicate any restrictions.

thanks

@larryp - You are correct in your understanding. There cannot be more than 2 VRRP routers per interface. The VRRP routers are differentiated by the VRID (virtual router ID). You will be able to create VRRP groups for each of these 6 VLANs. In fact, you can even have the same VRID across the 6 VLANs, as was done in this thread: .

There is no set maximum on how instances of VRRP can be configured per device. VRRP, itself, does not require a lot of processing, however, the performance on any AOS device is going to vary by the tasks you're going to need it to perform. If you have any questions regarding this, I'd recommend talking to one of ADTRAN's Applications Engineers who will be able to determine what you should expect based on your specific requirements. You can reach ADTRAN Applications Engineering by calling 888-423-8726 or sending an email to application.engineering@adtran.com.

Please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any further questions.

Thanks…

Is there a limit (other than the 2 VRRP’s per interface) to the number VRRP’s that you set up.  As I understand what you are saying I could set up multiple routers to provide redundancy and when there is a failure with one router the traffic could be rerouted to multiple other routers (via the transfer of the gateway address)?

Larry,

There is no specified limit to the number of VRRPs you can set up. This is dependent on the chassis and the other processes and features in use. ADTRAN's Applications Engineers would be better able to answer that question for you. I'm not sure if I understood your second question correctly, but does the scenario you are referring to involve more than 2 routers being included in a VRRP group? If that is the case, then yes, that is possible.

Please let me know if I misunderstood your question or you think of anything further.

Thanks,

Noor
