How to Port Trigger

Jump to solution

I have a Verizon FIOS router that I am replacing with a Netvanta 3450. I have set up the port forwarding but the FIOS router had the following port Triggering. How do I configure the port triggering since it's not tied to a specific internal IP address and can I do it via the GUI?

Port Triggering:

  • 5060-5090 UDP > ANY
  • 16384-16482 UDP > ANY
  • 8000-8200 UDP > ANY

Re: How to Port Trigger

- Thank you for posting your question on the forum!

What application are you needing to set up port triggering for? The reason I ask is because I do not believe there is a way to "port trigger" in AOS. However, there may be an ALG available on the NetVanta 3450 that may support your application or a possible workaround that could work as well.

Thanks,

Hi. thank you for your response. It is needed for the Ringcentral phone system being installed. There will be about 30 phones so I can't use port forwarding to a particular IP address. I need the traffic to flow to any device on the network which  is why they recommend port triggereing. Here is a link to their instructions for a Dlink router. Do you have any suggestions for a work around?

- I believe you opened a support ticket with Adtran Tech Support regarding this question. You were informed that AOS does not currently support port triggering, however, there may be a couple of options to try out. Based on the ports you mentioned, it appears the phone system is SIP-based. You may be able to use the SIP ALG or SIP proxy to get this application working.

Option 1: Enabling the SIP ALG. In the CLI, this is enabled by issuing the "ip firewall alg sip" command from global config mode. In the GUI, this can be enabled by navigating to Data -> Firewall -> Firewall./ACLs. From that page, click on the "ALG Settings" tab and check the SIP ALG option.

Option 2: Enabling SIP proxy. Below is a link to the SIP Proxy guide. There are 3 modes that the SIP proxy can be configured in, however, this depends on how your phones will be registering to the SIP server.I think, in your case, you will want to configure SIP transparent proxy.

Examples of SIP proxy configurations can be found starting on page 15. A transparent proxy example can be found on page 17.
