24 analog did trunks with loop start signaling utilizing a 924e

I have an end user with an older pbx that wants 24 analog did trunks, loop start signaling, to be passed through a 25-pair am-phenol connector to a 66 block. Is this configuration possible with a 924e?

I used to work for a carrier where this solution would have been done with an Adit 600 and FXO cards. I'm hoping to use more up to date equipment if possible?

Depending on your definition of "DID trunks, loop-start signaling" maybe.

The FXS ports on a TA924e are configurable as loop-start or ground-start lines, where you would configure each port with a given fixed DID which would send ring voltage when dialed. The interfaces from the TA924e look like POTS lines. They are not set up to pass digits through to the customer equipment. The TA924e provides battery, dial tone, and ringing and expects digits from the connected equipment. In simple terms it is designed to connect to telephones.

If you are looking for FXO capability where the connected device provides battery and expects digits, there is a specialized version of the TA924e which has 16 FXS ports and eight FXO ports. In addition there is a single FXO port on all of the TA900e devices regardless of the number of FXS.

That's what I was afraid of. This PBX is expecting old school loop start analog did trunks, and is looking for 10 digits to be passed inbound. They want 1 DID dedicated to each channel, and then have that signal passed through to a 66-block. As I said, when I worked for a different carrier, we accomplished this by setting up the Adit 600 chassis, and then setting up FXO cards, and each card had 8 ports on it.

I will see if they can condense their DID trunks to 8, and then I can order up a TA924e with the 8 FXO ports.

Is there a device I can hook up to the FXO port on the 924e that will then send out the trunks on a amphenol connector on a 25-pair cable to a 66 block?

The TA924e has an Amphenol-style connector for the analog lines. The FXOs are on positions 17 through 24. There are connectorized 66-blocks available from the usual sources (Anixter, Graybar, KGP, etc.) or you can get a cable connectorized on one end and punch it down to a standard 66-block.

There is an additional FXO port on its own standalone RJ-11 so you actually get nine usable FXO interfaces.

FYI, the Gen. 3 part number for the 8+1 FXO version is 4243924F3 and the Gen. 2 is 4242924L2.
