BSAP 1600 (1700913F1) Signal Strength

Jump to solution

I have a customer with BSAP 1600s and would like to know if there is a way to monitor the signal strength for these APs?

The LEDs are on the back of the unit. They may be hard to see if it is mounted.

The 11a and 11b/g LEDs operate in two display modes, which are configurable through the management interface. The RSSI mode is for aligning antennas in a bridge link. The AP mode is for indicating data traffic rates.

You are both correct. I pulled the text directly from the user guide. I have verified the documentation is accurate in regards to this question by opening a brand new BSAP1600. The user guide on the start-up disc is identical to the user guide posted on the support community. Both guides provide the same text. The photo and screenshot are of the new BSAP1600 and the web UI. That particular screenshot came from the first time I ever logged into this particular BSAP1600.

You may want to take a photo of your device so we can be certain you are using the BSAP1600. Also, if you are having an issue with the user guide, you might want to comment on the specific page. That way your concerns may be addressed.

The signal strength LED's indicate the received radio signal strength for a particular bridge link. The more LEDs that turn on, the stronger the signal.

Alternatively, you can monitor the Receive Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) value directly from the management interface. The higher the RSSI value, the stronger the signal.

Charlie,

This is right out of the manual. I went over this with my customer as well and in fact he had read this information. According to my customer the manuals are outdated and that this response was not helpful. Why that is the case I am not sure so I will get more information for you. Thanks

I am the one that asked the original question; forgive my ignorance, but I have yet to find the LEDs that the manual mentions. This is what I refereed to as the manual being a little out dated. It talks about there being three LED's and even shows them in the manual, but I have been all through the interface and looked all over the bridge itself and the only LED that I have been able to locate is the power LED.

There are other things that I can not go into at the moment that the manual mentions but i was unable to locate, as well as some situations that I encountered that were not addressed in the manual that probably should be as to simplify the setup process. But that's just my two cents....

Ah, the manual does not state that the LED's are located on the back of the unit. The units were mounted previously to me getting access, so that would explain why I was not able to locate them. Thank you for clearing this up.

I was not able to find any mention of them being on the back either, but I am glad that information helped. If you don't mind, please mark any helpful posts in this thread so that other users can find them more easily. Also, if you feel any post in particular answers the question, please mark it as correct.

And we do want to make sure the documentation is as helpful as possible, so leave some comments on the user guide (Bluesocket Access Point (BSAP) 1600 User Guide) or send me a private message.
