Option 43 Hex Value Limitation

Jump to solution

I have an ADTRAN Netvanta 1224R  OS version 13.13.00

We are trying to add the string below to the dhcp pool for pxe booting

Option 43 hex 0601.0b08.07aa.aa01.0a40.014b.00

This string breaks down as follows:
06 01 0B 08 07 AAAA 01 0A40.014B
00
This says, suboption 06 (PXE_DISCOVERY_CONTROL) is 1 byte long with the value
0B.
And, suboption 08 (PXE_BOOT_SERVERS) is 7 bytes long with the value AAAA01
(Altiris string), 0a40.014b which is the IP address of
our server.
00=Terminate the string

It appears as though the Adtran only allows an 8 Digit hex value.

HQ(config-dhcp)#option 43 hex
<8 digit hex number>     - Specify the hex value

HQ(config-dhcp)#option 43 hex

I have our Windows team trying to get the equivalent string in ASCII Formatt... ASCII does not appear to only work with 8 characters.  But I wanted to know if we have any other options for a longer hex string if Symantec does not have an answer? Any ideas?

Thank you for asking this question in the support community.  Unfortunately, in your version of firmware the DHCP options are limited to 8 digit hex.  In units that support newer firmware, this value has increased to 128 digit hex.

Please, do not hesitate to reply to this post with any additional information or questions.  I will be happy to help in any way I can.

I would recommend that you upgrade the firmware 13.15.00 then retest.
The value length is not listed as a fix however it is your best option
if you want to keep that version of Adtran on a NetVanta 1224R.  There are a few
other options for you situation but I would suggest you test this first.
