Netvanta 1335- followed password bypass procedure, unit never comes back up with "switch>" prompt

Netvanta 1335, inherited from company discard pile (it was working as our primary router at this worksite previous to being pulled).  Tried the "bypass passwords" procedure numerous times but the unit finishes with "session now available" instead of the "switch>" prompt.  If I hit return there it of course goes to the username/password prompts.

It also comes up with the red "WAN" light on.  I will assume that it's not booting properly although the first part of it, through the "booting, stand by" part seems to match what is on the video.

It just keeps finishing with "Press RETURN" to get started"

Any ideas or things to try are welcome.
