note this is for a test in lab
I am trying to connect a network for a phone system to a network for the Data lan. We are installing a IP phone system and need access to the data lan for applications.
we need to provide a router to route both networks. we Can't use there router.
the Phone Network is 172.16.0.0/24
the Data Lan is 192.168.15.0/24
in a 3120 I created two Vlan's
Vlan 2 : 192.168.15.235/24
Vlan 3 : 172.16.0.1/24
the gateway of the data Lan is 192.168.15.1 on a Adtran 3430.
I connected a port of the data Lan switch to the Vlan 2 of the 3120.
I connected the phone system Lan to the Vlan 3 of the 3120.
I routed intervlan between them.
As soon as I connect the Data Lan into the 3120 we loose internet connection in the office on the 3430.
why?
On your 3120 do you have anything configured for 192.168.15.1? Is it supplying DHCP to the 192.168.15.0/24 subnet? (Both should be "no".)
Make sure that the 3120 port that connects to their existing data switch is an access port on VLAN 2 only, not a trunk.
On a data workstation look at its routing table and its ARP table both before and during the failure. One or both will likely show a change which should be a clue.
You will need to add one line to their existing 3430 router configuration, but not having it shouldn't break their existing Internet connectivity. Add:
ip route 172.16.0.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.15.235

Then you'll need to investigate why the Internet to the existing data network fails when the 3120 is connected. It should not make a difference other than perhaps temporarily when spanning-tree runs. Look at policy sessions on the 3430, try traceroutes, pinging both inside and outside gateway, etc. If all else fails, post configurations for both the 3120 and 3430 and note which ports tie them together.
When the issue occur
From a desktop connected on the data lan can’t even ping his gateway 192.168.15.1
it’s like it’s going down as soon as we plug the 3120

Does it come back 60 seconds later? If so that is spanning-tree and is normal.
If not, what does the workstation ARP cache for 192.168.15.1 and routing table look like both before and after the 3120 is plugged in?
Also can you supply configurations?

I got it to work
I got internet access from the 3120 on the vlan 192.168.15.0 because it takes dhcp from the data lan. But from 172.16.0.0 I can’t get internet. When I ping 8.8.8.8 it timeout
I can ping 192.168.15.1 from 172.16.0.0/24
What is the issue?

Everything is working now ( internet access )
There is only a little issue. The IP phones connected in a switch linked to the 3120 are freezing and restarting. If I unplug the cable connecting the switch to the 3120 it stops.
Any idea?

What kind of phones, what kind of switch, how often do they restart? Any indication on the phone display before the reboot? Do the phones register and work for a while and then reboot or not work at all?
It is typical for phones that download a remote configuration to reboot, often several times, on initial startup. If your WAN link is slow and you have many phones pulling configurations at the same time this can cause contention.
Hi Jayh
The IP phones are NEC ITL-12D connected to a NEC Sv8100 PBX.
The switch is a Netgear prosafe 50POE switch.
The phones register, works well but then it freeze and stop working. After a while it restart. When it freeze you can still make a call but there is no audio. When I unplug the router from the switch it come back to life very quickly. The PBX is localy installed and connected in the switch it’s not a bandwidth issue.
