4430 SBC PRI Trunks

Jump to solution

Does anyone know the maximum number of PRI ports supported on the 4430 with SBC module?  I am looking for a device like the TA 908e but it needs to support 4 DSX ports where with the 908e it maxes at two.  I was hoping that since the 4430 can support 300 simultaneous calls it might be able to be expanded to support 4 PRI ports.

John:

The answer is Zero. The 4430 has no capability to output PRI ports or any kind of voice port for that matter. It is strictly an ethernet-to-ethernet SBC functionality.

Ronnie,

Thanks I was afraid of that I was just hoping the matrix had not been updated yet.  I will use it to connect four TA 904s on the back side and have the 4430 connect to the carrier then.  Was just trying to cut down on equipment.  The carrier is recommending a Cisco solution but I do not want to pay out $10,000.00 dollars a site.  To me the Adtran makes a lot more sense especially since we already have the 904s in place.

John, The NetVanta 644 sitting behind the 4430 would most likely be the best solution as it provides 4 PRI interfaces.  It does not have router or firewall capabilities so it must site behind the 4430.  I would recommend it over the TA 904 because each of those would have an independent SIP connection back to the ITSP which may not be allowed and will be more difficult to troubleshoot and manage.

mtharris,

Actually I currently have the multiple 904es in place with the current provider.  We had them setup an enterprise trunk group on Broadsoft and it has been working thus far.  However we are looking at switching to a different provider which uses a different switch that can handle more then two trunk groups one primary and one failover group which was the reason for the interest in the 4430, so the scenario would be 4430 connects to up-stream provider and then the 904 connecting to it.  However after your post I will look into the 644.
