SSH & Tunneling + Mobile VPN Client

Jump to solution

Good Afternoon -

I had a couple of questions, I believe the following would be quite useful, please see below:

1) Will the SSH daemon built into AOS ever support tunneling features common in many SSH implementations?

I was wondering if the SSH daemon in AOS will support tunneling within the future.  This is a common feature among many SSH implementations including competitors.  This is an extremely useful feature where one can tunnel one protocol through another.  A good example may be a RDP session, or a web gui of some sort.  I would not expect tunneling to take up much overhead but I could be wrong.  Its convenient if you only have SSH open to the public, anything tunneled through it would also be encrypted.

2) Is there any movement on an SSH Client for AOS?

This is pretty self explaintory, I also beleive I have seen it in the feature request list, can anyone confirm?

3) I have heard AdTran acquired another VPN vendor, does this mean we will now see a VPN client for iOS, and Andriod?

This has been hurdle during the sales process for our various teams when it comes to VPNs.  Usually its compared to Cisco, and to my knowledge there is no current client that will work on a smart phone.  I have heard talk of a possible Shrewsoft client, but would hope AdTran would re-brand, or create a mobile client.

Thanks!

Thank you for asking these questions in the support community.  I have included your questions, with my answers below.

1) Will the SSH daemon built into AOS ever support tunneling features common in many SSH implementations?

Currently, ADTRAN does not have plans to incorporate this feature into AOS.  However, I will add this functionality as a feature request to be reviewed for possible implementation in a future firmware release on your behalf.

2) Is there any movement on an SSH Client for AOS?

This feature request was submitted previously, and is currently being evaluated for implementation.

3) I have heard AdTran acquired another VPN vendor, does this mean we will now see a VPN client for iOS, and Andriod?

Although ADTRAN has a new VPN client, it does not support Apple or Android at this time.  This feature request was submitted previously, and is currently being evaluated for implementation.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding any future features or timeframes, your local ADTRAN Sales Engineer may be able to provide you with additional information.
