Change interface from t1 to e1

Jump to solution

Hi,

I'm trying to set up a Netvanta 644 to terminate SIP traffic to a carrier network.  I need to have the box set to use e1 rather than the default t1 but I'm struggling to see how this is done.  I've had  read through the documentation and I've found how to configure the e1 specific parameters but I can't seem to find how to set it to e1 in the first place.

Any tips would be great, thanks.

Re: Change interface from t1 to e1

Hello and thanks for posting to our forum.

It is likely that you cannot change to E1 interfaces because the County Setting is the United States, which uses T1 interfaces.  Verify this with the show system command:

NV640# show system

ADTRAN, Inc. OS version R10.3.0.E

  Checksum: 8162F80C, built on Fri Jul 06 16:43:19 2012

      e1 0/2    None        Internal Invalid

      e1 0/3    None        Internal Invalid

       e1 0/4    None        Internal Invalid

Note the E1 interfaces.  In order to change the country setting, go to Global Configuration and type:

voice system-country <country>

You will need to save and reboot the unit.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  You can also reference the AOS Voice International Config Guide - https://supportforums.adtran.com/docs/DOC-1824

Pages 5-8 discuss this and which countries support T1 and E1.  Below is the show system with United States settings for comparison.

Re: Change interface from t1 to e1

When creating the interface use “interface e1”.

Example:

interface e1 0/1

description PRA 1

timing-domain 1

system-timing primary

sa4tx-bit 0

tdm-group 1 timeslots 1-31 speed 64

shutdown

Re: Change interface from t1 to e1

Thanks for that unified but that throws an error for me:

644(config)#interface e1 0/1

%------------------------^

No such interface.

I do have a t1 interface defined.  Does this need to be removed?

interface t1 0/1

  timing-domain 1

  no shutdown

Yes you need to remove the t1 and then add e1.

Re: Change interface from t1 to e1

Thanks again.  Would you be able to tell me the command to remove it?  I tried using "no interface t1 0/1" but the command wasn't recognised.

I had a look at the command help suggestions and it doesn't seem to list t1 as a type I can remove:

644(config)#no interface

fdl                    - Delete a fdl virtual interface

loopback               - Delete a loopback virtual interface

pri                    - Remove PRI interface

Sorry to bug you but this is driving me around the bend.

Thanks.

Geoff,

thanks for that - I've done that and have my e1 ports now.

Not where I thought it was going to be!
