How to create a gateway custom config file

The following steps show how to create a custom configuration for your modem. This is typically for use as the provider's default configuration deployed on all CPE devices.

Where to find the configuration file

  • Connect to the modem's web interface (e.g. http://192.168.1.1/admin )
  • Goto Management > Settings > Backup
  • Click Backup Running Settings (this may appear as Backup Running Configuration in some older modems) and save the configuration file (ex: backupsettings.conf)

Rename the configuration file

  • Navigate to Management > Settings > Update
  • Select / choose file name under Update Default Broadband Router Settings and click Update Default Settings (may also appear as 'Update Settings' in some older modems as a function of firmware installed).
