How to set up interface grouping

This article provides instructions for setting up interface grouping.

Use case: Assigning IPTV set top boxes via DHCP Vendor ID or LAN interfaces to a WAN interface, e.g., setting up the first port for Internet access and setting up the next 3 ports for IPTV.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Open a browser window and enter the IP address of the gateway in the address field. The default address is:
  2. Log in with administrator access credentials.
  3. In the left menu, click Advanced Setup > Interface Grouping, and then click the Add button below the table.
  4. Review the "To create a new interface group" steps and then proceed to step 5.
  5. Enter a unique Group Name. This field is required.
  6. If this new grouped interface is to share the WAN interface, click the Shared WAN Interface box (located below the Group Name field). If you do not check this option, the selected WAN interface will be removed from all other interface groups.
  7. Select group members using the method in either step 7. (DHCP Vendor ID) or step 8. (Available Interface) below.
  8. To automatically add LAN clients via DHCP Vendor ID to a WAN Interface in the new group, add the DHCP vendor ID string (e.g., 0x9710 or 9710) of the client device.
You can add up to 16 vendor IDs. When you configure a DHCP vendor ID string, any DHCP client request that includes this vendor ID is denied an IP address from the local DHCP server (DHCP option 60).
  9. To add an interface from the Available WAN (or LAN) Interface list, add it to the Grouped WAN (or LAN) Interface list using the arrow buttons to create the required mapping of the ports. Hold down the Shift key to select multiple entries.
Note: These clients may obtain a public IP address depending on the WAN interface configuration.

  10. Click Apply/Save to implement your changes. The group appears on the Interface Grouping page.
