Jump to solution

What is the part number for the Craft Cables used by a TA 908e 3rd gen?  this is NOT just a regular serial cable, correct?  And where can I get one?

All of the TA900 series, all generations use a standard RS-232 DB9 connector wired as DCE. The specific cable you need depends on what connector is on your computer or terminal.

If your computer has a DB9 male serial port, you need something like this:

If your computer has only USB, you'll need something like this:

You'll need to either remove the hex nuts from the cable or also get the straight serial cable above to use as an extension.

It's a regular serial cable wired as DCE. Straight-through to a computer will work. You'll need a null-modem cable if connecting to a modem.

so how do you know what devices require the propriety craft cables, and which ones use a regular serial cable?

The ones that need a proprietary cable will have an 8-pin modular jack (RJ-45 style) for the console/craft port. It's the same connector but not the same pinout that is common to Cisco devices as a console connector. It's mostly the early devices that use the RJ-45 and need a proprietary cable. The MX2800 is a good example.

If it has a DB-9 connector it's standard RS-232 wired as DCE. All of the TA900 series have standard DB-9 connector.
