Is there a way to monitor the connected status of FXS ports?

Jump to solution

I am trying to find out if there is a way to determine whether an on-hook phone is connected to an FXS port?

go into the fxs interface and issue "test line"

see below for sample output. I have phone hooked up to 0/2 and no phone on 0/3. You see that 2 passed and 3 failed for the RInger test. And you can compare other results also.

Very nice! Do you know when that command was added? Not seeing it on an older software rev.

Thanks,

based on command reference guide, it has been there a very long time, since Release A4.01

OK - I'll have to hunt around a bit - getting this on 11.10.1 -

CE-A908-GlobalAuto(config-fxs 0/7)#test

battery                - Provide Battery on 2-wire interface

reverse-battery        - Reverse Battery on 2-wire interface

ringing                - Set 2-wire interface to Ringing

tip-open               - Set 2-wire interface to Tip-Open

tone                   - Enable 1kHz test tone

CE-A908-GlobalAuto(config-fxs 0/7)#test line

hmm,

Looks like you might have a 2nd gen TA 900e.

I was on a 3rd gen. I went into a 2nd gen and it didn't have the test line command either.

Not sure of another way to test remotely. You can do test ringing but someone would have to be there to hear phone ringing.

Yes, 2nd gen . . . guess that gives a good reason to upgrade, at least for this application.
