Very High CPU Utilization on NV3120

Jump to solution

Hello Everyone,

I have a customer that is complaining of terribly slow speeds to the net and upon logging in, the NV3120 is really struggling.

Here is the CPU table as of 5 minutes ago (this is pretty consistent as far as the percentages go):

Obviously packet routing is the main culprit here. I have verified that all integrated traffic monitoring is turned off (no ip ffe on each interface) and the only other somewhat taxing thing this NV3120 is doing is VPN.

Is this router just this severely underpowered?

Re: Very High CPU Utilization on NV3120

The 3120 is meant to be a SOHO type device and is generally not recommended for bandwidths in excess of 15Mbps (aggregate, up and down) for general traffic and it's VPN performance is roughly 1Mbps. Depending on how the unit is configured for other services (QoS, Traffic Shaping, etc), performance could be affected as well.  If you have the unit connected to a high-bandwidth link and trying to do VPN, QoS, Traffic Shaping, etc, the unit will do it's best to keep up but eventually it will have trouble.
