Provisioning SIP Phones on NV6355

Jump to solution

We have a NV 6355 in our lab we use to provision phones for our HPBX product.  I was wondering if there was a way to push initial settings from the 6355 to the phone so they will pull the new config settings and then attach to the required provisioning server offsite.  I am unsure if this can be done but I have been told it could be.  Any help would be appreciated and thank you in advance.

Hello PJ,

The NetVanta 7100 will support SIP Phone provisioning/configuration from the unit, but the NV 6355 does not.  You may be able to do this from the NV 6355 but Technical Support will not be able to provide any assistance since it is not a supported application.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,

Geoff

Re: Provisioning SIP Phones on NV6355

We use Aastra phones for our HPBX  offering with a 1335 (should work with 6355), and this is what we do to bring up a vanilla phone out of box:

1. enable the local tftp server on 1335

2. upload a file called aastra.cfg to the 1335 that contains the pointer to your provisioning server

3. configure dhcp server to use the "tftp-server" option, and set it to the private address of the 1335

4. plug in phone

The phone should come online, and as part of the DHCP offer, be told to look to the TFTP-Server for your config.  The phone will download aastra.cfg, read the "real" provisioning server (HTTP, FTP, etc), then reboot with that setting.  Upon the first reboot, it will go and pull down it's configuration and firmware, and probably reboot again.
