How to validate checksum

Jump to solution

How am I suppose to validate the checksum once the file in on the file system of the TA900 series?

I downloaded it through the web interface, let it transfer for about 10 minutes.

Set the primary as that firmware I just uploaded to the device.

When I go back into the CLI i get this

TA916#show file TA900A-A4-11-00-E.biz checksum

%File must be less than 500000 bytes.

I have checked all the firmwares that we use and all of them are larger than that.

Is there a way around this so I can check if the file got corrupt while transferring?

Brian,

You could telnet into the unit and manually assign the application firmware:

  1. boot system flash TA900A-A4-11-00-E.biz verify

The Verify subset of the command will verify if the file is good or not.

Hope that helps.

A4-11 code is really old. Is that what you uploaded?

Re: How to validate checksum

Alright, so this is what is shown:

TA908e#boot system flash TA900EA-A4-11-00-E.biz verify

Verifying images. Please wait...

Primary image: TA900EA-A4-11-00-E.biz

Backup image:  TA900EA-A4-08-00-E.biz

TA908e#

So I guess if it doesn't come back as failed, that it is verified?

Yes these are 1st gen units that we are using.

So what does this do? I also dont have the option for verify here either.

Trying to verify the file:

bootstrap#boot system flash TA900A-A4-11-00-E.biz

bootstrap#boot system flash TA900A-A4-11-00-E.biz verify

bootstrap#boot system flash TA900A-A4-11-00-E.biz verify

Specify no-backup then the word verify. Try that.

This is the output that I get:

bootstrap#boot system flash TA900A-A4-11-00-E.biz no-backup ?

<cr>

bootstrap#boot system flash TA900A-A4-11-00-E.biz no-backup verify

% Unrecognized command

Re: How to validate checksum

Brian,

So here is the run down after asking about this.

The problem is that you are running a first gen TA900 running old bootcode. Newer bootcode allows the option for you to verify a file, but it’s not user upgradeable. If you can’t get the firmware to load then you would need to call in and open a ticket on the issue and have support help you upgrade the bootcode. If the unit is out of warranty then you would need to provide PSVs in order to get through support.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Re: How to validate checksum

Thank you so much for your help though.

Even though I couldn't do the verify, I was getting stuck on it not booting after doing RELOAD.

I wasn't setting the file as the startup config like I was thinking I was doing.

Clarification: the verify command at the end does it verify and set it to the startup config?

This whole thing started as I put one on the device and it just took me to bootstrap.

Not sure on what I did to get to that point as I did the same thing with 4 other identical devices.

I wanted to track down if the data was getting messed up going over our network, or my local desktop.

I didn't have an issue after doing all this.

I have also not been able to replicate the issue that started me on this path.

I got that one fix, so again, thanks for the quick response and giving me something that will help me if this happens again.

Your welcome Brian! Glad to help and thanks for coming back and updating the post!

You are correct, if you leave off the verify, it does set the firmware, then you just type boot to boot the unit up.

Have a great day and thanks for choosing ADTRAN!
