Are you using a straight through or cross over cable?

Re: NEC IPK with Total Access 924 PRI

Hello and thank you for posting to our forum.

If you are using a TA 924, make sure you are using T1 0/2.  You will likely need a straight through T1 cable to the NEC.

If you are using a TA 924e you will need to use T1 0/3 or T1 0/4 and will likely need a T1 crossover cable.

T1 straight through is:

1-1

2-2

4-4

5-5

T1 crossover is:

1-4

2-5

4-1

5-2

When connecting the cable from the ADTRAN to the NEC, trying logging into the ADTRAN via console/telnet/ssh and use the CLI show commands for help.  You can issue the command:

show int t1 0/x

where x is the number of the T1 you are using.  Here you can see if the ADTRAN T1 port is in Alarm.  Check of LOS (Loss of Signal) or LOF (Loss of Frame).  This may help clue you in on the problem.  Is the NEC set for ESF/B8ZS on the T1?

Thanks,

Geoff

Re: NEC IPK with Total Access 924 PRI

I have to assume that the T1 port on the ADTRAN is enabled (no shutdown) since you mentioned that you can hard loop the T1 port and you see the green light.  If the carrier is not seeing anything, here is a check list of things to consider:

1.  Is the carrier looking at the correct T1 port on the ADTRAN when you are connecting the cable?

2.  When the cable is connected does the carrier report Loss of Signal or Loss of Frame on the T1?

3.  Can you use the loopback adapter on the cable between the ADTRAN and the NEC to verify that cable as well?  A loopback adapter will work on both a T1 straight through and T1 crossover cable.

The only settings that need to be set on the T1 to get Layer 1 connectivity are as follows:

!

interface t1 0/2

  no shutdown

!

You do not need even need a TDM-group set on the port to bring Layer 1 up.  ESF and B8ZS are default.  Since there is not a lot to configure to bring the T1 up, I believe that the cable is more likely to be the issue.

Geoff
