The following article gives a few tips and tricks for good posting and replying practices in the ADTRAN Support Community.   Always search first: It is always a good idea to try searching for a given topic before creating a new post. Someone may have already asked your question and someone else may have already answered it. If you try searching and do not see a thread relevant to your particular question feel free to ask it, but if you find your answer in an existing thread please make sure to give it a Kudos it and leave a comment to let others know their conversation helped you too. You can give Kudos by selecting the Kudos button at the bottom of the thread.   For more information about Kudos, and how they work in the Support Community, refer to the Kudos Help Topic, available here.   Posting restrictions: While posting is highly encouraged on most ADTRAN products, it is restricted on certain Service Provider infrastructure products such as the Total Access 5000 and several other products. A complete list of these products is noted in our Terms and Conditions and can be seen on our Restricted Content Help page.   How to Create a Post: The easiest way to create a post is to navigate to the applicable product series page and click the Post a question link on the top right-hand side of the page, as shown below.   Filling Out the Discussion Form: Before submitting a post you will be prompted to fill out a discussion form. Follow the steps below to complete the form and submit your post. 1 - Enter a title of your post to summarize what your post is about. 2 - Enter your post in the what-you-see-is-what-you-get (WYSWYG) editor. This editor allows you to change the text, insert pictures, insert videos, create tables, create hyperlinks, and much more. Pictures can be copied and pasted directly into the editor from most applications except for Microsoft Word. More advanced users can also swap to HTML mode to enter HTML directly. There is a spell check embedded as well to help correct typos. You can use at mentions by typing @ followed by the name of a person, area of the community, or name of a discussion/document. 3 - After you have entered your post, you can optionally attach a file. This may be useful for including a network diagram, configuration, or debug. As outlined in our Terms and Conditions, please make sure to remove any sensitive information from your files like usernames, passwords, public IP addresses, phone numbers, etc before attaching a file. This is for your safety.   4 - Click the Post button to publish your post message, or add associated products, labels, or messages tags to your post as described below.   Adding Associated Products, Labels, or Tags to Your Post: You can optionally choose to add a list of labels or tags to your message before posting it on the Support Community. These extra parameters help other users find your content when they select an appropriate product line discussion or when searching for information. You can add labels or tags to your message post by filling in the appropriate fields in the right-hand side of the New Message screen. Each listing of labels or tags must be separated by a comma, as shown below. For additional information about using labels or tags, refer to the Label and Tag Help topics available here. In addition, you can choose to receive an email notification when others reply to your message by selecting the Email me when someone replies check box.   Once you have entered any desired labels or tags for the message, select the Post button to publish your post message.   Replying to a Post: To reply to a post click the Reply link at the bottom right hand side of the original discussion.   An reply message editor will appear as shown below. This message editor functions in exactly the same manner as when posting an original message. After entering your reply click the Post button on the bottom right of the editor. As with original messages, you can optionally choose to upload a file to your reply. Please take care to remove any sensitive information from attachments such as passwords, unprotected public IP addresses, or phone numbers before adding any files.   Correct and Helpful answers: After a question has a reply (or multiple replies) the author can select one of the replies as the answer to their question by clicking the Accept as Solution button at the bottom of the reply. When you accept a solution, both the question and the solution get special icons and links that take you directly from the question to the answer. An Accepted Solution icon (a green triangle with a white check mark) also appears on boards and in search results so you can see which messages have solutions.     Once the correct answer is selected by the author, the next person that selects that post is shown the accepted answer first. In addition, the original post contains a link to Jump to solution, which goes to the correct answer's location in the thread.

Why did the site change? Take a moment to watch our Getting Started Video to familiarize yourself with the new community! Why did the site change? The platform on which our previous support community was based has announced its end-of-life at the end of 2020.  It will no longer be supported.  What is new on the new platform? The new platform has many of the same features and benefits as the old site.  We have added a space called “My Customer Dashboard” where you will see links to content or portals to which your company has been granted access. This is the place to look for customized documentation, discussion areas, even pricing information that is kept private to your company and appropriate ADTRAN personnel. Likewise, we have made some changes so that it is easier to navigate directly to official technical documents and guides, or to discussions or articles about products, depending on your preference. Will my login still work? Log in using the My ADTRAN button at the top right of the www.adtran.com homepage, then click Login, if you already have a login.  Your username and avatar will be the same. What if I don’t have a login? Use the My ADTRAN button at the top right of the www.adtran.com homepage, then click Register. What if I don’t remember my login? Use the My ADTRAN button at the top right of the www.adtran.com homepage, then click Forgot Password. What if I don’t remember the email I used for this site? You should always use your company-issued email address to ensure you are connected with any content related to your company, or your company’s product purchases from ADTRAN.  If you still aren’t sure, just attempt to register again. How do I find what I need? We have organized the content into types. Documents, Discussions, Software, Tools & Calculators, Product Notices, and Videos are all major categories of content. If you are looking for official documentation and manuals, start in Documentation. If you are looking for articles written by support or troubleshooting videos, look in Discussions. The related Documentation content for any product grouping will have a link on the page to the Discussion content for that group, and vice versa – so either way you search, you will find the related content. Also, the search bar at the top of the page searches everything. For content specifically written for your company, if applicable, start in My Customer Dashboard and find content organized by product group. How do I set up notifications? If you want to know when content is updated or added, simply click the Subscribe button at the top right of that content group. What happens to my existing notifications? Your existing notifications are not migrated. You will need to set up new notifications in the new site. Think of it as spring cleaning for your email box!

How does a community work? This community provides a place for members to search for information, read discussions, post questions, and learn from each other. Anonymous visitors can browse or search the community for information. Registered members can post questions, add comments, track discussions, rate content, sign-up for e-mail notifications, and earn rewards based upon our points and ranking system. It is also important to note that there is some content that is restricted to verified members and registration is required for viewing.   What is my role in the community? Everyone is essential to the community. Even if all you ever do is search for information, you are contributing to the success of the community. We encourage you visit often and participate. Ask it. No matter how tough or easy the question. Share it. If you know the answer or have a tip. Rate it. Whether the information you find is good or not, rating it helps everyone. Please remember to thank community members who have helped you. You can show your appreciation by marking posts as being correct or helpful and by posting thank-you replies. Are there any guidelines for community member responsibilities? We want everyone to have a positive experience. Be sure to read the ADTRAN Community Code and the community's Terms and Conditions.

Why register? As a member, you will have full access to the community. Community members can post community messages, reply to other members' posts, connect with other community members, subscribe, sign-up for e-mail notifications, rate content, and gain badges for their activity within the community.  Can I still search for answers even if I don't register? Yes, you can still browse, search, and read any information that has been made publicly available. However, private information is only accessible to authenticated community members with the proper rights. Who has proper rights? Community members are automatically assigned roles based on their company name and associate email domain at registration.  If your company has purchased the items covered by a section of the community, you should have permission to access it.  If you think something is missing, let us know via Feedback. Am I going to have another password to remember? No. If you have an ADTRAN.com account, then you automatically have access to ADTRAN's Support Community. You will need to provide us with a community username, but it is used only to identify you to other community members.  Just click My ADTRAN to log in via ADTRAN.com How do I register? If you already have an ADTRAN.com account, then you already have access to ADTRAN's Support Community. Welcome to the ADTRAN Support community! Below is a short list of guidelines for community interactions. Material deemed sensitive or inappropriate will be removed. Please see our Terms and Conditions for more information. Remember that we are here to help you and happy to do so. If you need help or are unsure about something, ask. We have a Feedback section dedicated for questions about how to use the community and giving suggestions for improvement. Be a valued member of the community. Keep it relevant. Before posting, make sure that you are posting in the best space available and that the question or response is on-topic and appropriate for the community. Doing so benefits everyone. Keep it respectful. Everyone wants a positive experience. Be mindful of the others. Refrain from using harsh or inappropriate language, pictures, and avatars. Be yourself. Being anonymous or using a screen name that protects your real identity is acceptable. However, pretending to be someone else (moderator, member, etc...) is unacceptable and violates community trust. Help others. If you have learned something that others can benefit from, we encourage you to share it. No commercial activity, spamming, or soliciting. This is a support community. Be careful. Don't over-share. If you are sharing a configuration make sure to remove any sensitive information like usernames, passwords, and IP addresses. Don't share confidential information with others through the community. Not even through direct messaging. Think before you post. Take a minute to re-read anything before you post it. Make sure it falls within the community guidelines and terms of use. Search first, ask openly, share what you know, and think carefully before you post. The success of our community depends upon members like you! Thanks, ADTRAN Support
